Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS scheme) and Seed EIS
Reliefs are available under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS scheme) and Seed EIS to an individual who invests in qualifying trading companies. In summary, these are:
- 30% Income Tax repayment on investments in any year up to £1m for EIS.
- 50% Income Tax repayment on investments in any year up to £100,000 for Seed EIS.
- Freedom from Capital Gains Tax on the investments.
- The ability to hold over gains on other assets into the EIS or Seed EIS investment.
The above is a simplified list in what is a complex area. There are several types of trading activity which are not qualifying. In some cases, it might appear that an activity doesn’t qualify but with some planning it can do so.
Where a company is looking to attract business angels and other outside investors, the existence of EIS status having been agreed with HM Revenue & Customs is an attraction for them.
We can assist with looking at any prospective or actual trade to see whether it can qualify for EIS or Seed EIS for new investors. Our review will include a detailed run-through of the legislation and, if appropriate, will be followed up by an approach to HM Revenue & Customs for an advance ruling.

How can we help
We are problem solvers. If you tell us about a current situation and what are the aims for the future, we should be able to give you our recommendations. They will be bespoke solutions and not pre-prepared tax avoidance schemes. The solutions will be based on or experience which includes remembering what tax advice was all about before schemes became prevalent.
We operate nationally, or internationally, and are not tied to our desks. We believe in giving a no nonsense level of support with affordable fees and costs. Our pricing structure is affordable, and we will fix fees for our engagements avoiding the traditional open-ended, “on the clock” approach of larger firms and our competitors.
To discuss this with us on a non-judgemental, discrete and no-cost basis call our helpline 0800 001 6686 or contact us today.
