Richard Morley

Richard is a highly experienced tax investigations and dispute resolution expert.

His tax career started with the Inland Revenue in 1987 before he expanded his general tax experience in the early 1990s, by working in a newly established tax department for a local firm of Chartered Accountants. Richard then moved on to work for a specialist tax investigations insurance provider.

His subsequently joined a small London based tax investigations team for a global accounting firm and over 20 years helped develop that team to become one of the industry’s leading players. After leaving in 2021 and, following a period with a London based mid-tier firm, Richard joined the team at Independent Tax to help further develop and grow the business.

Richard is a qualified Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), a Fellow of the Association of Taxation Technicians (FTT) and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Richard is passionate about helping clients deal with HMRC tax investigations as well as guiding clients through voluntary disclosures. Clients Richard has helped include corporates, OMB’s, self-employed, high net worth individuals, trustees, charities and Executors. Richard seeks to form close working relationships with his clients which is crucial when dealing with the emotional roller coaster of interacting with HMRC.

Outside of work, interests include supporting Colchester United FC, as well as enjoying his local Essex countryside either on two legs walking his dogs or on two wheels on the motorbike.
