Uzair joined Independent Tax in 2022 coming directly from HM Revenue & Customs Fraud Investigation Service in Birmingham.

Uzair is a former HMRC senior investigation specialist, trained in all areas of financial investigation and tax law. Whilst in HMRC, Uzair was responsible for running and managing a wide range of investigations, enquiries and tax compliance checks into the tax affairs of individuals and businesses.

Uzair brings deep knowledge of HMRC’s approach to tax fraud investigations and also to investigations involving overseas income, assets and gains. In his roles at HMRC, he independently ran and managed many enquiries both through HMRC’s Contractual Disclosure of Fraud facility (CDF) and its Worldwide Disclosure Facility (WDF) exposing him to both difficult practical and tax technical challenges. Prior to these roles, Uzair also excelled at conducting risk reviews and investigations from start to finish.

From his years with HMRC, Uzair brings a wealth of knowledge of the wider governmental resources, processes, and compliance approaches. He is, as expected, exceptionally well versed in and sensitive to HMRC’s Departmental approach and has an unrivalled knowledge of HMRC’s approach and agenda within an enquiry context.

Uzair’s ambition, now within practice at Independent Tax, is to become a leading trusted “go to” advisor for individuals, businesses and organisations.
